“We are an Easter people, and Alleluia is our song.” -attributed to St. Augustine of Hippo
Many of us have heard this quote (which at times is erroneously attributed to St. JPII and is especially popular during the Easter season), but not too long ago I did some digging and found a sermon based on this “Alleluia,” written by St. Augustine. I stopped short when I read the following line:
“Let us sing alleluia here on earth, while we still live in anxiety, so that we may sing it one day in heaven in full security.” – St. Augustine
This struck me so much as representative of the true motto I long to live out in my daily life. Being a professional musician + trained coloratura soprano, I was drawn to this quote. But the concept of “singing alleluia” in our daily life can sound so trite, especially to those of us who are turned off by toxic positivity. You see, I started this blog when my first two children were babies and I was looking for a creative outlet in the midst of juggling early motherhood & my job as a bilingual parish Music Director. I had interests, hobbies, and a desire to connect with others (especially other mothers!) and I was drawn to the idea of blogging as a means to do this. I can say that if I’ve learned anything during the past 10 years of motherhood, it’s that I have been humbled to my very core, and seeking the joy, or “alleluia” can be hard in the face of anxiety and the weight of being responsible for the beautiful little souls I have been entrusted with.
But! We don’t have to be fake and ignore the fact that anxiety exists. Finding the joys and consolations still have a purpose and acknowledging them is healing. We sing alleluias when we breathe in the gifts of our loved ones, the moments of pure joy when our children reach for us, or even the excitement of discovering and sharing a new hobby!
That’s what this blog is about: sharing my daily “alleluia’s” with you, dear friends. So, hello! and welcome to my little home on the internet. I’m Bianca: a thirty-something- year-old homeschooling mother of 6 children, musician, former bilingual Music Director, writer of thoughts, hobby baker, and makeup & DIY nail enthusiast. I’m so happy you’re here. <3
